Kenny Jackett has given a worrying update on Oli Hawkins’ injury situation, as reported on Portsmouth’s official channels.
Speaking about the 27-year-old, the Pompey manager said: “It’s been quite a slow one for Oli and we’re not necessarily putting a time frame on his return just yet.
“He’s been out for a while with his foot injury and we’re not really thinking about any of the upcoming games.”
This is especially concerning after he was given a time frame of being back in 2-3 weeks in early October.
The man who can play as a striker and centre-back came off in the 59th minute of the 4-0 Carabao Cup loss against Southampton with a foot injury, as per Transfermarkt.
His injury will have come at a very frustrating time, for both Hawkins and Jackett, as he was only just beginning to cement his place in the team, having made his first league appearance of the campaign, against Wycombe Wanderers, four days earlier, having excelled in the EFL Trophy.
Jackett gave an indication of his frustrations when the injury first occurred, as he had wanted to get a settled back four, with Hawkins in it.
When Hawkins does return, it will be interesting to see whether he is able to get straight into the team, with Sean Raggett having amassed 6 League One starts.
It is concerning that there is no time frame being put on Hawkins’ injury, especially as he would be a useful player to have in the team.
When the 27-year-old does return, he may have to be patient for his opportunities, presuming he will still be used as a centre-back, with Pompey having kept 2 clean sheets in their last 3 games.
